Care and Warranty

Living with it

Neither platinum nor 18K gold tarnishes. Both pick up the residue of everyday life, and both are softer than most people expect.

Platinum does not wear away when it is scratched, it moves. Over years that becomes a soft, even patina, which some people prefer to the original finish and some do not. Either way it can be polished back.

18K gold does wear, slowly, at the points that meet things. It scratches gold, so store pieces where they are not touching each other. The box it arrived in works.

Take it off before swimming, before the gym, and before anything with chlorine or bleach. Both dull the surface over time. Lotion and hairspray build up underneath a stone faster than anything else.

Cleaning it at home

Warm water, one drop of dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse, then dry with a lint-free cloth. That is the whole method, and it is the same method a jeweler uses.

The one thing to watch

A marquise is cut to two points, and on any stone in any setting those points are the most vulnerable part of the cut. If the ring takes a hard knock against something solid, have us look at it rather than assuming it is fine.

Sizing and resizing

Whether a piece can be resized depends on how it is made, and we will tell you before you order.

NAIYA cannot be resized once it is made. The band tapers along its whole length, so there is no point on the ring that can be opened and closed again without changing its shape. That is a property of the design rather than a policy, and no jeweler can work around it.

So we handle sizing before anything is made instead. You can change your size at no charge at any point before your piece goes into production, including to a quarter size. Add a note in the cart or send us a message and we will take care of it.

Other ARCA pieces may be resizable, depending on their design. Ask us before you order and we will tell you plainly.

Warranty

We cover our own work for as long as you own the piece. If a prong fails or a solder joint opens under normal wear, we repair it at no cost, with insured shipping in both directions.

What that does not cover: accidental damage, ordinary wear, loss or theft, a stone that comes out of its setting however it came out, and any damage that follows work done by another jeweler.

We recommend insuring the piece separately. A jewelry rider on a homeowner’s or renter’s policy is inexpensive, and it covers the things a warranty never can.

Repairs and service

Anything outside the warranty we will still look at, and we will quote you before we do any work. Send us a note and tell us what happened.
